Let us specify the root for a new SFTP account
This is such a basic feature that exists on any cPanel hosting plan. Simply allow us to set the root folder for a new SFTP accounts for an application.
I have software that automatically uploads to the SFTP but the upload fails because your default root (applcations/(appname) is not writable. Simply add a field to let us specify where the root for he new SFTP we just created will be (i.e. applications/(appname)/public_html/newfolder
I cannot stress enough how useful this will be for us developers and will make the CloudWays experience more robust and scalable.

I've faced that same SFTP setup issue with my site, https://hdoboxapk.net/. When we first tried adding a new SFTP account, it was a hassle making sure the root was set just right. Without that, we risked giving access to parts of the server we didn’t intend to. But once we specified a secure root directory, everything clicked into place. It allowed us to handle HDO Box APK files smoothly and securely, keeping things organized and protected.

+1. Important if you need to give a plugin dev access to just their files and not the whole server.

Still nothing on this? This is a feature which is preventing me hosting several sites on Cloudways. It's a basic requirement to allow clients to have sftp access to specific directories to upload files for imports etc. I don't want to give my client access to the root directory of my application. This is so simple in cPanel.

Please make this a part of your ui!
It's a common feature you just expect to have control over in your hosting providers ui.We got sftp users added with a specific path from your support chat as it needs root promissions to do this. It is not the best workflow. And a big problem is that the newly added sftp users your support made from root is not visible in our UI. So we have no idea what users are on the applications. This is a big oversight. So atleast make the accounts made from root visible in the ui, so we have a chance to get an overview over the accounts/users when we have to manage the application in the future.

Couldn't imagine in 2024 this wasn't a thing until i transitioned my sites and then vendors couldn't upload their files. This is crazy. The cheapest of hosts offer this

I have a vendor who wants to upload his product feed via FTP. I have set up a separate FTP log-in for him in the same Application folder JIMP. However, I don't see a way to give him access to only a designated folder for him. I don't want to give him access to the whole file system. Please add this feature. It is critical that I can do this.

Users have to be able to create an SFTP account where you can point to only one directory. Even cheap hosting providers offer that.

This is critical for most of us who have to give sftp access to associates (eg. for uploading files, photos etc). Giving them access to the root folder is a no go. Besides, most of your competitors (like SiteGround), do offer the ability to define the users home directory)

Add the FTP users you don't want accessing the storage system to /etc/ftpusers. FTP users can be prevented from accessing certain directories if the ftpd is configured correctly. The server. Set the restriction option to on; otherwise, all FTP users should be granted access. https://www.machinesrating.com/bosch-js260-jigsaw-review/

YES. I checked with support. Unfortunately cloudways demanding advanced support subscription just for restricting ftp users to a specific folder.
I am wondering, actually, this is a standard feature with cpanel or plesk and child's play to create one in minutes.
When the service is offered as a managed server, this option is a must. Realy wondering why this is not achieved yet and really it is a bottle neck while prividing CMS services to our clients by having our hosting accounts with CLOUDWAYS.
Thanks and regardds,

I really just assumed that this was possible with Cloudways - I didn´t even check, because thats how basic I think this feature is. All the hosts I used before (even the really cheap ones) supported this.
I have an external party uploading xml files. I need to be able to access those files within the context of the application without them beeing able to modify all website files.
A really complicated "workaround" would be to create a second application on the same server and use a CRON job to somehow copy the files from one application to the other :/
Thats ridiculous... -
