Please upgrade Drush to a current version, Drush 7.x, that works with Drupal 8. Your current version is several years old.
As the title says, please upgrade to the current Drush 7.x that works with Drupal 8. I just signed on and understood that your drush was up to date.

Also, you should not use pear. Pear channel deployment has been dead for years.

From tomorrow, all new servers deployed will come with latest stable version of drush (6.x).
We can (on demand) update existing deployments.

We use the drush version that comes with Debian Wheezy (stable) https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/php/drush. Understand not latest. We tried deploying it via the pear channel, but it was causing server deployments to fail as it is often down.
We may revisit it later on.
