Request for Built-In File Manager in Cloudways User Interface
Cloudways Team – Managing files on our servers currently requires using SFTP/SSH for even the simplest tasks, which is unnecessarily cumbersome. Many competing hosting platforms provide an integrated web-based File Manager, and Cloudways should too.
Why This Matters:
No More SFTP for Basic Tasks – Right now, editing a single file (like .htaccess or wp-config.php) forces us to connect via external clients. This slows down workflows and adds unnecessary complexity.
Accessibility & Convenience – Not all users are comfortable with command-line or third-party FTP tools. A visual file manager would make server management more intuitive.
Emergency Fixes – When SFTP/SSH access is restricted (due to firewall or permission issues), a web-based file manager acts as a reliable fallback.
Expected Features:
✔ Basic File Operations (upload, edit, delete, rename)
✔ Code Editor (with syntax highlighting for PHP, JS, HTML, etc.)
✔ Permission Management (visual CHMOD/ownership controls)
✔ Compression/Extraction (ZIP, GZ support without CLI)
✔ Search Functionality (quickly locate files across directories)
This is not just a "nice-to-have" – it's a basic necessity for efficient server management. Shared hosts like cPanel/Plesk have offered this for years, and Cloudways, as a premium managed solution, should not lag behind.
Please prioritize adding a built-in File Manager – it would save users countless hours and significantly improve the platform's usability.
Looking forward to your response on this long-overdue feature.

100% agree, a basic File Manager feature would sit really well under your new 'Site Manger' section :-)

Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback. A built-in web-based file manager would definitely make file management faster and more convenient compared to relying only on SFTP or SSH, especially for quick edits or emergency fixes. Many users would benefit from features like a visual editor, search tools, and simple file operations directly in the dashboard. For those looking to manage files easily on Android devices, you can also explore CX File Explorer, a powerful and user-friendly file manager available on my website: https://cxfilexplorer.online/
