Downgrade server on the Digitalocean
I contacted support today and asked for help to downgrade the size of my server, and he told me that it is currently not possible to do so, but that I must clone to a new site, including new DNS settings and more. In this situation today it will be difficult for me to continue working with your servers, I have many clients and each of them asks for something different, if I have to perform a clone every time a client wants to reduce the size of his server. It will be very difficult to work like this.
Thank you very much

I really appreciate this suggestion — adding the ability to downgrade a DigitalOcean server directly on Cloudways without needing to clone and reconfigure DNS each time would be extremely helpful. Right now, having to clone servers just to reduce resources is time‑consuming and adds unnecessary work, especially for people managing multiple sites and varying resource needs.
For example, on my own platform (3pattigames.com.pk), we often adjust testing and development environments based on traffic and performance demands, and straightforward downgrade functionality would save a ton of administrative work while optimizing hosting costs.
I hope Cloudways considers adding this feature as part of flexible scaling — it would make managing cloud resources much more intuitive and efficient. WEBSITE:https://3pattigames.com.pk/

I agree, having the option to downgrade a DigitalOcean server directly in Cloudways would save a lot of time and hassle compared to cloning and reconfiguring. Flexibility like this really matters when managing different projects with changing resource needs. On a similar note about flexibility and expression, I recently visited https://theunsentproject.cc/
— a creative platform where people share unsent messages and personal thoughts. Just like server management benefits from adaptability, that site shows how sharing unspoken words can also create meaningful impact. -

You’re right, managing downgrades manually is frustrating. The process gets overwhelming when you’re handling several projects at once. Luckily, I came across some resources that simplify things:https://www.obilane.com/

Thank you for sharing your experience—it’s completely understandable to feel frustrated in a situation like this. Downgrading server resources should ideally be a flexible and straightforward process, especially for users managing multiple clients with varying needs. Requiring a full site clone, including DNS reconfiguration, just to reduce server size adds unnecessary complexity and time to what should be a simple change. For developers and agencies handling several projects, this can quickly become unmanageable and inefficient.
Hopefully, the hosting provider considers adding more dynamic scalability options in the future to support professionals like yourself who need agility, not added workload. In the meantime, if you're exploring alternative solutions, tools, or platforms to optimize your workflow especially in the gaming and tech space you might want to explore https://avatarworldgeeks.com/ for fresh ideas and resources.

Downgrading options would definitely help a lot, especially for businesses with fluctuating server needs. We experienced similar challenges while scaling resources seasonally for our logistics platform https://fleettimez.com and having more flexible server options would really help optimize cost without compromising performance. Hope this feature gets prioritized!

You're absolutely right — cloning servers every time is not a scalable workflow. Cloud providers need to improve flexibility. By the way, if you need a stress reliever after managing client servers, try Summertime Saga iOS version: https://summertimesagapro.com/summertime-saga-ios/
it's a fun game to unwind wit

I completely understand your frustration—managing multiple servers and clients can be a hassle, especially when a simple downgrade requires cloning and DNS changes. On a lighter note, when I need a break, I enjoy modding Minecraft. You might want to check out: https://jennymodlatest.com/ – it's quite entertaining.

I really appreciate this suggestion—having the flexibility to downgrade a server on DigitalOcean via Cloudways would be a game changer. Not every project needs top-tier resources all the time, and providing an easy downgrade option could help optimize costs for sites with lower traffic or testing environments. It’s about giving users more control over their hosting expenses while still maintaining performance on an as-needed basis.
On a related note, for those also juggling multiple accounts or needing to streamline their hosting credentials, I often rely on https://loginsphire.com/. It’s a great resource for managing and securing your login information in one place.

I completely understand the frustration — especially when managing games or projects like Summertime Saga, where server resources need to be flexible based on demand. Having to clone and reset DNS just to downgrade is not ideal, especially when working with multiple clients or hosting dynamic content. Hopefully, DigitalOcean can streamline this in the future. In the meantime, tools to automate cloning and DNS setup might help reduce the friction. Best of luck navigating it!

We upgraded our servers from 2GB to 4GB a year ago with just one or two clicks, which was seamless and convenient. However, I was surprised to discover that downgrading is so much more complex. It’s disappointing to see such a contrast in the process, and it has left a bit of a sour taste, especially since Cloudways has otherwise been a great platform.
Hoping they address this issue to make scaling down as simple as scaling up!
