1. Add geo detection capabilities into Varnish

   Please add geo detection capabilities into Varnish, this will accelerate use case scenarios where geo detection is essential.

   For e.g. in WooCommerce, their current method to provide multi-currency that's compatible with cache is using Woocommerce based geo detection, which tends redirects the visitor 4 times to the correct URL of the page with the correct currency/tax displayed.

   Other multi-currency plugins attempt improve this but their loading speeds are too slow, drastically affecting woocommerce store loading times, and making caching useless.

   By having geo detection capabilities right in the server stack (Nginx or Varnish, which ever is hit first by visitors) we have opportunities to use this capability to serve the pre-cached store with the correct currencies.

2. Provide newer version on Nginx

   Please consider providing a newer stable version of Nginx.

   New servers are still installed with 1.8.x which has bugs, most significantly this:

   The bug causes major incompatibility between PrestaShop and Nginx when HTTP/2 is enabled. Ie. you can't add products to the shopping cart etc.

   I understand that you don't wan't to be first mover on new version, but 1.8 is quite old by now.

4. Fix Woocommerce Password Reset Loop Varnish Rule

   Add to Varnish exclude rules the cookie \wp-resetpass-.\b (Woocommerce before Version 3.0: \bwp-resetpass-.\b) in order that Woocommerce Customers who request their password to be reset get not stuck in a loop.

5. A better backup scheme

   So here my suggestion for a better backup scheme. Do something like keeping:
   = 1 - 3 monthly backups
   + 3 weekly backups
   + 4 - 6 daily backups
   This way a longer period is covered without increasing the space required for backups. You can try keeping it at 8, although 12 would be ideal as it will cover last 3 mo, last 3 wk, and last 6 days.

   Other suggestions:
   - Allow to choose the time of day to do backup so it won't slow down the server during busy hours.
   - Allow to choose external backup destination like S3, Dropbox ... so you don't have to worry about space. Of course you need to create a way for us to be able to recover a full server from a backup too.

   We keep eight days worth of backups (this is a fixed setting that you can’t change)...
   How many backups this includes, depends on the backup frequency that you have set:

   - If you have set frequency to seven days (weekly), we will keep just one backup."

   I was considering setting it to every 2 days thinking that I'd have 16 days more or less covered. Or weekly to have 8 weeks worth of backups. But according to your article I would only end up with 1 weekly backup. So why not retain 8 backups no matter what the interval was set as?
   I also don't see the value of hourly backups if only 8 are kept.

   However, in the end, none of these make a good backup scheme.

   So here my suggestion for a better backup scheme. Do something like keeping:
   = 1 - 3 monthly backups
   + 3 weekly backups
   + 4 - 6 daily backups

   We are closing this thread as we have implemented most of the features requested by OP and other features requested by users in the comments over the years. Here is the list of the features we have introduced around backups.

   1. We added the option to set backup retention from 1 to 4 weeks.
   2. We added the option to set the frequency of backups from 1 hour to 168 hours (1 week).
   3. We introduced on-demand application backup options.
   4. Users can now specify the time at which the backups process should be initiated on the server.
   5. Users can now restore their deleted servers from the Cloudways Platform. Previously this feature was limited to support but to give customers more control this feature is now available to all Cloudways customers.
   6. Users can now restore their deleted applications from the Cloudways Platform to an existing or new server.

6. Multi-tier (more than one server for my application, load balancer, web servers, database server...)

   I would love to have the option of setting up a multi-server application for more targeted and cost effective scaling. For instance, Say I could create a Wordpress site with a dedicated DB server, a dedicated load balancer, and a dedicated Web server. As my site grows, I can scale the specific part that is needed. If my site is gets a lot of views (reads), but doesn't make many writes, scaling my existing web server (or adding another instance) may be what's needed. If I'm running a WooCommerce site and start pushing the limits of my db server, increasing the resources or implementing replication might make more sense. It would be really great to have that level of control when growing a site.

   I would love to have the option of setting up a multi-server application for more targeted and cost effective scaling. 7. Enable Let's Encrypt Auto-renewal to work with .htaccess redirects in place

   When a website is SSL secured (https) it is recommended to have redirect rules in place which enforce https (redirect http to https) and of course redirecting to one version (www vs non-www).

   It appears that the Let's Encrypt Auto-Renewal does not work. It will fail saying there are htacces rules restricting it from working. I am not sure if this is an issue for Cloudways to fix, or Let's Encrypt.

   In either case, the solution provided by Cloudways support is to:
   1. Temporarily rename your .htaccess (so it is not in effect)
   2. REVOKE your Let's Encrypt Certificate
   3. Install a new Let's Encrypt Certificate
   4. Revert the name of your .htaccess (so it is back in effect)
   (note, even if you remove your .htaccess in step 1, the manual "Renew Now" will say it worked, but it will not work, the old certificate will remain)

   I would like to think there is a long term solution whereby the auto-renew will work. Especially since these redirect rules should in fact be in place (if you are not redirection all variants of your website to a single variant, you do not have your site setup correctly).

   Is there some way for this to be resolved?

   Hello

   We have resolved this issue, an update was deployed on all customer’s servers.

   LE SSL installation is now independent of rules added in htaccess, now users just have to make sure that the domain is added in the domain section of the application and the domain is pointing to Cloudways server, any rules in htaccess will not conflict with SSL installations.

8. ALLOW a Single Person (and their email) to be a TEAM MEMBER on MORE THAN ONE ACCOUNT

   Allow a way for a SINGLE person (and their email) to be associated as a TEAM MEMBER on more than one account.

   At the moment, a person would need to create several different emails to be be a TEAM MEMBER on more than one account.

   There should be a GENERAL ACCOUNT console (that doesn't require a hosting/server plan.... however it CAN support a purchased plan if desired) that is separate from any TEAM MEMBER access associations.
   On the console you should be able to see all of the accounts you are associated as a TEAM MEMBER on... and access them from your own MAIN ACCOUNT.

11. Hosting email addresses

    Every hosting provider I have used allowed me to create as many email addresses as I wanted without an extra cost.

    At the moment, I need to pay for two servers because on your server I need to pay monthly for each email account. I have one server with you (I host my websites on it), and the other with another company (I host on it the email addresses for these sites.

    Could you make my and other life easier by adding an option in the app console for creating and hosting email accounts?

12. Better caching plugin than W3 Total Cache

    W3 Total Cache is rarely updated and is not officially compatible with WP 4.4 as of yet. Many people are speculating that the author may have even abandoned this plugin. Issues with WP 4.4 are being reported and are not resolved. I would prefer a more stable and regularly updated caching plugin.

    UPDATE: Breeze has now been made default caching plugin for all new WordPress apps on Cloudways Platform excluding ‘Clean WordPress’ app.

13. Manage rackspace email accounts from within console

    The current option to add mailboxes from Rackspace is extremely limited.
    The only way to order them, is via a small window and is very limited information.
    I have no details at all about current mailboxes, quota usage etc...
    Also, the only way to order mailboxes is by TYPING in the details in the window including the desired password for the mailbox???
    Afterwards, I get a confirmation back from support with the password in the email.
    It's completely unsafe to communicate about passwords this way.

    And lastly, there is no control at all about the mailboxes.
    I can't create extra alias, I can't activate forwarding, etc...
    for each and every change we have to request via support and wait for them to fix it, while some things I can do very easy myself instantly.
    I don't understand why there isn't a control panel to manage the mailboxes?

14. WordPress and Woocommerce apps should both use Woo Varnish by default

    My suggestion is that all WordPress apps use the Woocommerce Varnish by default.

    This way there's no risk of a user installing a normal WordPress app and later installing Woocommerce on it, only to find out that their cart is broken because of Varnish.

    Here is why:

    I found out that the WordPress app uses a unique Varnish and the Woocommerce app uses it's own unique Varnish.

    I ran into a problem with a WordPress app that I later decided to install Woocommerce on. Once I did, the normal wp Varnish did not support Woocommerce and it broke my cart functionality. I had to make a new Woocommerce app and migrate my site over there so it could use the Woocommerce Varnish.

    The support team told me that Woocommerce Varnish would also work for a plain WordPress app without Woocommerce.

    My suggestion is that all WordPress apps use the Woocommerce Varnish by default.

15. Alarm on bandwidth Monitoring by email

    Having to pay for a bandwidth that will rely on behavior of internet (such as robot attack, malware, what ever intention...) but not being able to stop the expense is not something anyone would sign for, woudl you?

    Therefore, having an alarm on bandwith with a threshold set by us is something to consider. Though the monitoring can be done through SSH , alarm must be done by email since none of us are spending they day watching the bandwidth consumption.

    I will not sign for the account for this reason. that is total not acceptable interm of business rules for the moment. Since I have no protection and can end up with a bill of $ 5000 without even knowing it and with no corresponding customers on the website.

18. upgrade all New Relic Lite accounts to Standard Free Plan

    This is important as Standard brings great features:
    - allows monitoring of wordpress plugins and themes.
    - web transaction summary so you can tune effectively
    - Database analysis of poorest performing calls
    - 1 week of data in a single view
    - Embeddable charts

    There is an option that says "upgrade to standard" in New Relic app monitoring under Wordpress and Database. But the page forwards to the CouldWays upgrade to Pro page. So this is in your hands to fix.

    I have a separate Standard Plan and at least for now I want to be able to use that instead of the lite.
    Or better just upgrade the lite to standard for everyone.

    This is what my other Standard subscription looks like. Web Standard vs Web lite is the difference.

19. Add elastic email log in console

    I really like how easy it is to use elastic email in Cloudways. However, there is no way to find out if emails were sent/delivered. We have to chat with support to check if an email was sent.

    It would be nice to have an interface in console to view sent email logs.

20. Add multiple domain ssl support for a single application.

    I have WordPress MU and I have multiple ssl certificates for the multiple domains but I can't use it within one application, therefore I have to create multiple wordpress instances for the domains.

    Very annoying that I can't use WordPress MU with multiple domains with multiple single domain ssl certifications.

    We have added a support of SAN in our platform, which will allow you to have a support for multiple domains using single SSL certificate. Having SAN available there won’t be a need of getting separate SSL for multiple domains mapped to a single website.

    Moreover, work is already in progress for Let’sEncrypt (freeSSL) to support multiple domains using single SSL.
